Just crunched numbers for the top 100 best selling monitors. Here is what I found out about 27″ models.
I know you’d be skeptical if I told you this is how I’m having fun, but hey, we can be different, right? Also you don’t have to dive into a raw dataset, which is a plus.
Interestingly enough the data shows that the cheapest 27″ monitor costs as much as a mid-range 24″ unit does, which in and on itself should be an incentive to take a closer look.
Yesterday I looked at how 22″ monitors fare as far as popularity, average, minimum and maximum prices go, today you’re going to see very much the same thing, but tailored to 27″ displays.
The Numbers
Twelve 27″ monitors made it into the Top 100 of which the most expensive costs $863.99 used. It’s the previous generation of Apple Cinema Displays, which sports an IPS panel spanning 2560 x 1440 pixels. The latest Apple Thunderbolt Display is not included as it is not yet sold in quantities large enough to make it to Top 100.
The second most expensive are Dell Ultrasharp U2711 for a hefty $794.99. This monitor also brings a WQHD (2560 x 1440) IPS panel and is the most expensive 27″ monitor to be included in the adjusted average.
The cheapest 27 inch display the list features is a ASUS VE278Q, which is only available in used condition and costs $239.87 at the time of writing.
Second least expensive display of this size and therefore the cheapest brand new unit comes from Samsung and is a P2770FH Full-HD display for $244.99. It’s the cheapest of the data set to be included in the adjusted average.
Average price for 27″ monitors in October therefore is : $436.29
Adjusted Average (without cheapest, most expensive) : $413.26
For comparison, the adjusted average for 22″ monitors is $168.74, or 59.17% cheaper than their average 27″ counterparts.
Quick Recap: There are 12 monitors with a 27 inch glass in the Top 100 best selling monitors at the time of writing, which shows the trend that 27″ monitors are becoming more widespread. The cheapest new model is Samsung P2770FH for $244.99, the most expensive (used) is Apple Cinema Display
